Maui X-Stream: what now?
As you may or may not know, this charming company’s business plan seem to fully revolve around the concept of IP ‘breaking and entering’.
What’s really interesting about them is that every day there’s a new surprise.
They offer two products: one is a video streaming software and ‘Gabest’ of the ‘Guliverkli‘ projects, author of the excellent Media Player Classic, is claiming that that Maui X-Stream shamelessly integrated their GPL CODECS in their ‘VX30′ product.
What’s really funny is that these guys are not even famous for this rip. The PearPC community already knew all about them: apparently, Maui X-Stream simply recompiled the open-source PowerPC emulator, added a couple bells and whistles and started selling it as ‘CherryOS’, the product of a genius programmer who coded the whole thing in 4 weeks(!)
Speaking of CherrysOS, references to that project had disappeared from their web site for quite some time now.
It would seem that we now know why: the ‘genius programmer’ is throwing the towel, according to his own blog.
Of course, it is interesting to read that, according to Honolulu-based starbullettin.com, MXS’s main problem is with jealous Mac-heads turned hackers, etc etc.
Boy, we definitely live in a ‘non reality-based’ world where everybody think that they can get away with anything.
