Yellow-bellied journalism not dead yet

You have to watch this video to believe it: Lou Dobbs gets chided by “60 Minute’s” Lesley Stahl for being a concerned journalist. Wait, what? Lou Dobbs? What is going on?
Well, in her mind, that should disqualify him as a journalist.

The woman’s reasoning is amazingly backward; In her opinion, what matters is not so much the facts as presenting them in a “fair and balanced” manner, meaning: regardless of how damning and obvious the facts are, a journalist’s job is to pretend that they are unable to understand their meaning and ramifications.

Note that it doesn’t have anything to do with politics; regardless of whether we are talking about Bush, Obama or scientology, a fact remains a fact. Saying that exposing the facts is “YOUR reality” (sic) amounts to exposing yourself as the fool you are.

This trend has been going on for the last few years and I thought that with recent developments, this was going to be the end of yellow-bellied journalism.

Now, I am starting to wonder if we are actually the powerless witnesses of a new form of mad cow disease. That would have the merit of explaining why Lou Dobbs is now the “reasonable” guy.
